Start Finishing with Charlie Gilkey

Start Finishing with Charlie Gilkey
As you probably know by now – I have a thing about great brains!

So what do you get from a joint forces military logistics specialist who also has a PhD in Philosophy?

A brain that thinks differently with game changing and thought provoking productivity tips!

This is Charlie Gilkey with his ‘Start Finishing’ Book and Fieldbook, plus the momentum planning system + app over at Productive Flourishing.

A go to resource for planning effectively. If you want to model and learn from the best – Charlie is up there for me. Here is someone who understands delivering is as much to do with your headspace as getting into a new planning system.

He covers:
* getting the right stuff done that matters to you.
* how you can change the way you show up.
* how you plan.
* how you respond when things get tough.

One of the greatest threats to success can be the lack of ability to get things done and out into the world. It starts with the premis that we are good at coming up with ideas but often struggle to get them to the finish line. That is certainly me and his approach has helped. As you have to ship those great ideas to have an impact!

The book is very doable with a logical and practical approach; a clear system and toolkit; and a great vocabulary that helps you frame things simply. I just love that ‘doing’ verb chart!

He gets your ideas out of your head, onto your schedule and actioned to get stuff done with military precision but it does not feel that way!

Useful concepts include:
* Treating all your important ideas and stuff as Projects to unlock your best work.
* Building your success pack team of supporters, guides, peers and beneficiaries.
* Using the Five Project Rule to prioritize your daily schedule.
* Chunk, link and sequence your ideas down into doable parts.
* How to deal with drag points like head trash, no-win scenarios and others’ priorities.
* Heatmap your schedule so you do the right things at the right time.
* Overcome cascades, logjams and tarpits – identifying the ways projects routinely get stuck
* Finish strong – so you celebrate, review and ride the momentum into your next project!

At Productive Flourishing they share regular productivity blogs and you can join the FREE ‘Creative Giants’ Community – to get access to some valuable resources. Including FREE downloads of the very successful Momentum Planners to try out.

The Momentum App is Charlie’s current project that is evolving into a valuable planning tool – definitely worth a peek. Yet I still like paper to think through and plan my delivery and he does too!

I have used the Momentum templates but the App is not on my radar right now. I have to keep myself away from such ‘Shiny New Objects’. I have a 1 system rule that I stick to – so unless I am willing to give up what I am using I just don’t go there!

Charlie Gilkey shares the steps and tools necessary for you to get your life in order and finally start focusing on the things that matter to you. Go have a play.
