Get Future^Fit with Discovery Skills
LEARNER, EXPLORER, PROBLEM SOLVER,
THINKER and CREATOR

The Discoverer – an in demand skillset and mindset.

Someone:

*Who gains energy through curiosity and has a zest for life to match.

*With creative curiosity, a beginners mindset and ‘What if?’ on the tip of their tongue.

*An adventurer who explores, problem solves, thinks and is keen to learn; who wants to expand their talents, skills and expertise.

*The purposeful one – seeing with fresh eyes, grabbing opportunities and solving problems by challenging the status quo and exploring new possibilities.

Every team needs more than one!

Start with your MINDSET because it is the fuel to start your fire.

So what do you need to do?

1) CREATE YOUR STATE
Your attitude and outlook are everything! Your state is determined by the language you use to talk to yourself, what you focus your mind on and your how you use your body.

You can choose and change your state whenever you want to. Especially when things do not go to plan.

2) BE A PROBLEM SEEKER
Opportunities come from finding real problems to solve – make sense of the business context with fresh eyes; understand people and their needs more than they do; and master designing and delivering valuable solutions and experiences.

3) BE OPTIMISTIC AND OPEN MINDED
Be an opportunity spotter, with a beginners mindset and ‘can do’ attitude. Creativity flourishes with a hopeful, open mind searching for possibilities with the willingness to try new things and unlearn old things!

4) STAY CURIOUS
Be a pioneer – seek out new experiences and patterns. Stay curious as long as you can – by exploring, questioning, experimenting, observing, testing, learning, reflecting, connecting and associating.

Ask ‘What if?’ and ‘What else?’.

Welcome obstacles, get lost and then find a way through.

5) BE A COURAGEOUS WARRIOR
Feel the fear and do it anyway, take risks, challenge norms and bias, be ok with right and wrong, be resilient and accept being an outsider. Get into your stretch zone and have adventures. Persevere and stay with it – whatever it takes.

6) KEEP A BALANCED OUTLOOK
Recognise the importance of right brain curiosity and creativity with left brain process to problem solve, find ideas and deliver solutions. Be risk aware rather than a thrill seeker. Ensure all the great ideas are tested and rubbed up against reality – which all creative endeavours need to make them work – but not too early in the journey.

7) BE A PLAYFUL BETA MODE LEARNER
Seek new adventures to innovate and add value. Challenge your long-held assumptions to discover new and unique ways of doing things. When things go right explore more. When they go wrong – capitalize on the learning, pivot and bounce back.

Stay agile, embrace everything as a learner, be willing to play on the edge to see ‘what if?’, have some fun and enjoy the journey – yet keep your end objective clearly in focus.

Be that Discoverer – you will get noticed and are needed.
